Population enumerated at each census by sex , 1851 - 2011

1962, 1972,  1983: "De facto " population refers to the total of all persons present on Census night.

1990, 2000, 2011: "de jure/resident " population refers to the total of all persons who usually live in 
the household at the time of Census. 

For Census 2011, the definition was narrowed down to refer to the total of all persons who usually live
in the household at the time of Census and have been there continuously for the past 12 months 
or intend to live there continuously for at least 12 months, in line with latest UN recommendations.
